How to Shampoo a Carpet
Knowing how to shampoo a carpet is very useful when maintaining a clean home. If a carpet is kept clean, it not only looks nicer but lasts longer. Carpet is constantly exposed to dirt, food spills, dust and other things that make it dirty. For a deep clean that removes debris and maintains the carpet, this do-it-yourself project is easy and effective.
First: What to do first
Move the furniture out of the room for easy access to all the carpet. Vacuum the carpet scrupulously to get up as much dirt as possible.
Second: Spot clean
Put liquid shampoo onto dirty areas of the carpet, and use a mechanical brush on the surface. The brush produces a cleansing foam in the pile of the carpet. When the carpet is very dirty, use a traffic-lane cleaner separate from the liquid shampoo. Do not use more carpet shampoo; instead use more of the traffic-lane cleaner to penetrate the heavily soiled areas. Let the carpet dry for several hours before walking on it.
Third: The full treatment
Vacuum your carpet dry once most of the moisture is gone. Use a steam cleaner and liquid shampoo to clean your carpet if necessary for a deeper clean. Buy or rent a machine from a store. The cleaning solution is also available for purchase.
Fourth: Final touches
After the carpet is dry, place the furniture back in the room. Use pads under the legs of the furniture to prevent deep indentations from forming in the carpeting.
