How to Make Homemade Carpet Shampoo
There are many ways to clean your carpet, but knowing how to make homemade carpet shampoo from scratch takes some stress out of the job. It is also a much cheaper solution than purchasing different kinds of cleaner from the store.
First: Get the supplies in order
Get an empty gallon container with a lid, a measuring cup, liquid dish soap, liquid fabric softener, ammonia, water and a pair of rubber gloves. Prepare this solution in a bathroom or kitchen for less mess.
Second: Shake it and mix it
Add a half cup of liquid dish soap to the container. The amount you need varies depending on the pile of your carpet. To this, add a fourth of a cup of fabric softener. Fill a measuring cup with ammonia and pour into the mix. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from this strong ingredient. Then, fill the rest of the container with water. Screw the cap on and shake vigorously.
Third: Clean your carpet
Read the instructions on your carpet cleaner to determine the amount you need for the machine. Follow the instructions to clean the carpet. Use this solution to spot clean the carpet as well.
Fourth: Following up
Make a rinse to apply after you clean the rugs with your homemade shampoo. Mix a half cup of distilled vinegar with a gallon of water. Pour this on the areas you cleaned. Use the carpet cleaner to go over the areas again.
